Not Your Bones Barlenem Art Opening: Friday, October 27th, 5pm - 7pm

Join us, Friday October 27th, 5pm - 7pm, for the art opening of Barlenem Art. Brandi, the artist behind Barlenem Art worked at Robot vs Sloth this past summer. She had been accepted to showcase her beautiful work in Puyallup, but the show was pulled for being too obscene and inappropriate! We think it's totally appropriate, especially for Halloween, so we will be proudly showcasing her work from October 27th - November 3rd. Dress as a Skeleton and come see what was too horrific for Puyallup!

From the Artist:

Barlenem Art

I created this collection, using bones and different smiles.
I explored with shape, line, color, acrylic and wood.
Inspired by images that make me happy and hopeful, represented by bones and smiles.
So often we allow outside forces to take away our happiness and hope, when it was never theirs to take, nor ours to give. The collection “Not Your Bones” is a reclaiming of our hope through our bones and our happiness through our smiles. A reminder to our higher selves, I hope you always Smile.

1 Year Anniversary Party! February 10th, 2019: 10am-7pm

Join us February 10th from 10am - 7pm to celebrate our 1 year anniversary!

Our first year has flown by and we could not have done it without you! Thank you to our fabulous staff, customers, artists, family and friends, and of course the Pike Place Market!

We will have goodie bags, giveaways, and live painting by a few of our artists. So save the date, we can't wait to celebrate with you!

10% of our sales during our anniversary weekend (2/9 and 2/10) will go to the Jaguar Rescue Center.
The Jaguar Rescue Center is the reason our owner and main artist, La Ru (Lauren Rudeck) fell in love with sloths.

To RSVP, click here.

Why Jaguar Rescue Center?
My obsession with sloths began seven years ago, when my husband and I spent a month in Costa Rica. We stayed two weeks on the west coast, then 2 weeks on the east coast. On the west coast we did not see any sloths, just tons of monkeys. When we went to the east coast, we stayed in Puerto Viejo, home to the Jaguar Rescue Center. Jaguar Rescue Center rehabilitates and then reintroduces into the wild lots of different animals: monkeys, sloths, and birds — any wild animal brought to their door. They are truly amazing.

I went on the Jaguar Rescue Center tour and then went back again the next day because I could not stop thinking of the adorable sloths. It was the first time that I had the opportunity to interact with sloths and monkeys so close up. (You can’t pet or feed the sloths, but you are inches away from them watching them move, eat, and sleep.) When I went we got to hold a baby monkey named Frida. She was adorable. I took a picture of my husband holding Frida, but when it was my turn he FORGOT to take a picture of me with Frida (I will never let him live this down).  I distinctly remember being so inspired by the Jaguar Rescue Center that I sat all night drawing the sloths we had seen that day. It was the first time I drew sloths.

They have a program where you can volunteer at the center for a few months; I obsessively read through all the program guides and was determined to one day volunteer there. Now, after having two kids, I realize this will probably won’t happen, but hope that one day I can bring them to the Jaguar Rescue Center so they can see all the inspirational work they do to rehabilitate wild animals.

The Jaguar Rescue Center began my obsession with sloths and inspired my sloth related artwork. In honor of them and all their work for animals, 10% of our sales on our anniversary weekend (both 2/9 and 2/10) will go directly to the Jaguar Rescue Center. Not in Seattle? No problem, 10% of our online sales 2/9 and 2/10 will also go to the Jaguar Rescue Center.
